February 12th: 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Used ONLY by our Tuesday classes on Tues, Feb. 7th
Liturgical color: Green
PROMISE: I recommend using most of the Feb. 12th lesson, and then just send home the 19th and 26th. This is simply because K and 1st graders are most likely to really appreciate a lesson focused on Valentines and Valentine's Day. I like the little flower heart activity, and/or you could certainly have some fun making valentine cards. There is some material in the craft closet that you might be able to make use of if you so choose. Our next class will be after Lent has begun, so IF you want to save some elements of your Feb. 19th lesson to use when we get back to introduce Lent, that is ok too. Have fun!
GOOD NEWS: I am kind of surprised that your lesson doesn't touch at all on Valentine's day! I guess you could make the tie-in by pointing out that reaching out to others is a loving thing to do, and go that route. I like the "Draw the Gospel Story" activity, and do have some rolls of paper that you can use to do that. Just let me know ahead of time and I will get it ready for you. Looking ahead at the two weeks of lessons to send home, I see that the lesson for the 26th does have some "intro to Lent" stuff that you may want to save and use when we are back in session. If that is the case, feel free to keep that aside. If you want to do some kind of Valentine activity at the end of your class, please go ahead and do so. Again, just let me know if you need help gathering materials, etc.
VENTURE: If you began the two-part "Jesus Begins His Ministry" project last week, be sure to finish that up this week. If you choose to do the cover activity, be sure you know all of the answers first! LOL! You can google the pope information, and I can help you fill in our parish information if you need it. Just email me! Alternately, since Lent will have begun when we return from our break, you might want to have them do the cover activity on the Feb. 26th lesson to sort of prepare them that it is coming. I like the heart activity in this lesson because (a) you can tie it to Valentine's Day and (b) I like the verses it gives them. Between that and the booklet activity you started last week, you should be able to have plenty to do to fill the class time this week!
